Political Backlash Against Javier Milei

Politicians from various parties have expressed their rejection of President Javier Milei's statements regarding the election of the new Pope Robert Prevost, where he linked the name León XIV chosen by the Supreme Pontiff with his own figure.

National Deputy Victoria Tolosa Paz, from Unión por la Patria (UxP), was one of the first to express her disapproval, describing Milei's publication as "embarrassing" and apologizing to the world for the president's behavior.

Meanwhile, other politicians like Maximiliano Ferraro from the Civic Coalition and Gabriel Solano from the Workers' Party in Buenos Aires City have harshly criticized Milei. Ferraro described him as "disrespectful, rude, megalomaniac, ignorant, shameful," while Solano called him "idiot" in response to his publications.

Milei's reaction came as a result of the election of León XIV as the new pontiff, at which point he shared a digital image on social media of a lion dressed as pontiff, alluding to his party symbol and commenting: "The forces of heaven have made their verdict clear."
